Why did you start Rise Up Counseling?

“The name of our practice is deeply rooted in my personal journey that reflects the core values we bring to our work. I was diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy at the age of two and I faced a life-altering challenge in 2015 when a fall led to a broken foot. What should have been a straightforward recovery turned into a prolonged and difficult ordeal. After enduring eight surgeries over two and a half years, I became a wheelchair user, and ultimately, my right leg was amputated below the knee when it failed to heal. During that time, people often called me resilient. For me, resilience is not just about bravery or overcoming—it's about the quiet strength we discover within ourselves when life demands more than we ever thought possible. We rise up because we must, finding within us a well of resilience that allows us to endure, adapt, and grow in the face of adversity. In the darkest moments, when the path forward seems impossible, it is this resilience that carries us through, revealing new depths of courage and perseverance we never knew we had. My lived experience as a person with disabilities deepens my understanding of the challenges faced by marginalized communities, including those with disabilities, and enriches my capacity to provide empathetic and effective care. This perspective uniquely qualifies me to create a practice that is both inclusive and empowering for clients who often face systemic barriers to accessing quality mental health care.”

What makes Rise Up Counseling different than other therapy practices?

“Choosing Rise Up Counseling means partnering with a practice that truly understands the unique challenges you face. Our approach is rooted in empathy, resilience, and a deep commitment to helping you navigate life's most difficult challenges. We believe in rising up to meet the challenges life presents, not as something to overcome, but as an opportunity to discover new strengths and facets of yourself. Our practice is inclusive, compassionate, and empowering, offering a space where you can explore your authentic self and develop the resilience needed to thrive.”

What should clients know about how they are viewed by Rise Up Clinicians?

“Clients at Rise Up Counseling should know that they are viewed with the utmost respect, empathy, and understanding by our clinicians. We see each client as a whole person, not defined by their challenges or circumstances, but by their unique strengths, experiences, and potential. We recognize the courage it takes to seek help and honor that by creating a non-judgmental space where you are valued for who you are. Our clinicians view clients as partners in the therapeutic process. We believe in collaboration, working together to uncover your strengths, build resilience, and empower you to navigate life's challenges. We are here to support your journey, offering guidance and tools, but always respecting your autonomy and wisdom in your own life.

At Rise Up Counseling, you are seen as more than just a client—you are a resilient individual with the capacity to grow, heal, and thrive, and we are committed to walking alongside you every step of the way.”
